Premio COMEL ‘Vanna Migliorin’ 2015: Silva Cavalli Felci vince il premio della giuria
Sabato 11 aprile è stato proclamato il vincitore della IV edizione del Premio COMEL ‘Vanna Migliorin’ – Arte Contemporanea 2015. Un appuntamento internazionale che ha visto, ancora una volta, la partecipazione di tantissimi artisti di diverse nazionalità. Il bando è infatti rivolto all’Unione Europea. Per le opere viene richiesto l’utilizzo dell’alluminio, o tecniche miste che lo comprendano in modo determinante. L’ente organizzatore e promotore è infatti l’azienda CO.ME.L di Latina, leader nel settore dell’alluminio.
La giuria ha scelto inizialmente i tredici finalisti per la mostra collegata al premio, dal titolo “Leggero come alluminio”. Un titolo che invita ad alleggerire la pesantezza del vivere quotidiano e a sdrammatizzare attraverso l’arte. Dopo attenta valutazione, ha dichiarato vincitrice l’artista Silva Cavalli Felci (Bergamo, Italia) per l’opera “Danza rossa”. Si tratta di una lastra rossa percorsa da intagli ondulati. L’effetto visivo è di veder danzare un’anima che prende vita dalla staticità del materiale. Una contrapposizione ben studiata tra materia e resa artistica che caratterizza spesso la produzione di questa artista eclettica. Si legge nel giudizio della giuria: "Misura, ritmo ed eleganza sono i segni caratteristici evidenti di un'opera con la quale l'artista, dal ricco e significativo curriculum, ha voluto rimettersi in gioco ed è tornata a sperimentare il suo linguaggio. La purezza dei tagli della materia e la morbidezza delle linee, ottenute con una fine modellazione dell’alluminio colorato di rosso, accennano i movimenti lievi come di una danza e sembrano disegnare simboli musicali e profili di uno spartito le cui armoniche si offrono allo sguardo per vibrare in leggerezza. L’opera rivela così una dimensione ulteriore, che la assomiglia ad una scultura sonora: le frange regolarmente sagomate dell’alluminio quasi possono essere toccate quali corde e lasciano netta la sensazione di una reazione con l’ambiente, di un’atmosfera estatica e come sacrale”.
Silva Cavalli Felci si è formata tra Svizzera (è nata a Bellinzona, nel 1935), Inghilterra e Italia. Negli anni ’50 sceglie di trasferirsi a Londra per studiare arte, in un periodo in cui era piuttosto insolito vedere una giovane donna avventurarsi in un clima internazionale. Un episodio che esprime bene il furore artistico che ha animato la sua opera, sempre tesa tra l’impeto e il perfetto controllo stilistico che armonizza e dona infine l’idea di pace e persino di appagamento. Tiene mostre personali e collettive in Italia. Si dedica alla creazione di libri d’arte, in collaborazione con poeti, scrittori, ricercatori (basti citare, tra gli altri, il sodalizio con lo studioso e poeta Sergio Romanelli, con la poetessa e saggista Rina Sara Virgillito, con la psicoanalista junghiana Sonia Giorgi) e conduce laboratori di attività espressive rivolti all’indagine e alla voce del disagio.
La giuria del Premio COMEL ha deciso inoltre di segnalare, per le qualità tecniche e la pregevole resa artistica, anche le opere ‘I need protection’ di Alessandra Baldoni (Perugia) e ‘L’atleta e l’uccellino’ di Giampietro Degli Innocenti (Firenze).
‘I need protection’ è una serie di scrigni in alluminio che attendono di essere aperti per svelare misteri poetici tra parole e immagini. Alessandra Baldoni è una fotografa di lungo corso e scrittrice, ama creare piccole sceneggiature visive che vivono in un mondo metafisico. La giuria ha espresso il seguente giudizio: “La sequenza di libri-scrigni, di piccoli libri-album che si tengono dentro sicure cornici d'alluminio, ha la struttura e il ritmo di un'installazione e chiede un rapporto diretto con chi guarda, chiede di essere sfogliata, chiede partecipazione. La relazione tra immagini e scrittura è la base dell'opera ed è tema svolto nel senso della leggerezza: la leggerezza di esplorazioni in punta di piedi dei sentimenti, di affioramenti discreti di memorie, di riflessioni sui valori dell'esistenza, di frammenti di racconto di vissuti espressi da lontano e sublimati nel linguaggio dell'arte.”
Giampietro Degli Innocenti è un artista autodidatta. Come scultore predilige soprattutto argille refrattarie. Nell’ultimo decennio si è specializzato in sculture lignee e metalliche. Nell’opera ‘L’atleta e l’uccellino’ (fusione in alluminio) conferisce leggerezza ad un soggetto voluminoso nell’atto di spiccare il volo. La giuria: “La presenza di un omino tutto massa e volume, risolto in un aggregato greve e informe, che sta inscritto in un cerchio e, a differenza di celebri figure leonardesche, poggia schiacciato sulla sua base, è tale da far pensare comunque ad un movimento circolare, anche circense, che può cominciare, che può innescare un processo di smaterializzazione. E il volo può risultarne di conseguenza, un volo che imita gli uccelli abitatori dell'aria, che ne insegue la libertà. Il gioco, serio ed ironico insieme, è tra peso e leggerezza, tra la realtà che opprime e il suo superamento, la sua sublimazione: un gioco alla Calvino che s'avvale degli impulsi e dei suggerimenti dell'alluminio.”

COMEL Award 'Vanna Migliorin' 2015: Silva Cavalli Felci is the winner
Last Saturday, on April 11, the award ceremony of the fourth edition of the contemporary art COMEL Award 2015 took place. An international event which, once again, has involved the participation of many artists of different nationalities. The call is in fact addressed to the European Union, and it requires the creation of a work of aluminum (as the organizer and promoter is the CO.ME.L. of Latina, an Italian leader company in the aluminum sector).
The jury initially chose the thirteen finalists for the exhibition connected to the prize, entitled "Light as aluminum." The title itself invites to lighten the heaviness of everyday life and to play it down through art. After a careful evaluation, the jury announced the winner, the artist Silva Cavalli Felci (Bergamo, Italy), for the work ‘Danza rossa’ (‘Red Dance’). It is a red plate crossed by sinuous and precise cuts. The visual effect is that of seeing a soul dancing and coming to life from the static nature of the material. A well-studied contrast between the material and the artistic rendering that often characterizes the production of this eclectic artist. The verdict of the jury says: "Measure, rhythm and elegance are the hallmarks of her work. The artist, who has a rich and meaningful curriculum, wanted to get back into the game and returned to experiment with her language.
The purity of the cuts on the material and the softness of the lines, obtained with a fine modeling of the aluminum colored in red, remind the slight movements of a dance and seem to draw musical symbols and the profiles of a score whose harmonics are offered to the view to vibrate in lightness. The work thus reveals a further dimension, which looks like a sound sculpture: the regularly shaped edges of the aluminum can almost be touched as strings and lend a strong feeling of a reaction with the environment, in an ecstatic and sacred atmosphere."
Silva Cavalli Felci was formed between Switzerland (she was born in Bellinzona, in 1935), England and Italy. In the 1950s she moved to London to study art, in a time when it was quite unusual to see a young woman venturing into an international climate. An episode that clearly expresses the artistic fury that animated her work, always tense between the momentum and the perfect control style that harmonizes and gives finally the idea of peace and even contentment. Her work has been featured in both solo and group exhibitions in Italy. She is dedicated to the creation of art books, in collaboration with poets, writers, researchers (among others, she has collaborated with the scholar and poet Sergio Romanelli, with the poet and essayist Rina Sara Virgillito, with the Jungian psychoanalyst Sonia Giorgi) and leads workshops of expressive activities, directed to the investigation and the voice of the discomfort.
The Jury also decided to assign two special mentions to the works 'I need protection' by Alessandra Baldoni (Perugia, Italy) and to ‘L’atleta e l’uccellino' (‘The athlete and the little bird') by Giampietro Degli Innocenti (Florence, Italy).
'I need protection' is a series of aluminum treasure chests waiting to be opened to reveal the mysteries of poetic words and images. Alessandra Baldoni is a long-term photographer and writer. She loves creating small visual screenplays living in a metaphysical world. The jury expressed the following opinion: "The sequence of book-chests, small book-albums that are held in safe aluminum frames, has the structure and pace of an installation and asks for a direct relationship with the viewer. It asks to be browsed, and demands for emotional involvement. The relationship between images and writing is the basis of the work and is the theme played in the sense of lightness: the lightness of tiptoe exploration of feelings, a discreet revealing of memories, reflections on the values of life, fragments of narrative of experiences expressed from far and sublimated in the language of art."
Giampietro Degli Innocenti is a self-taught artist. As a sculptor he has a preference for fireclays. In the last decade he has specialized in wooden and metal sculptures. In the work 'L’atleta e l’uccellino' (aluminum casting) he manages to give lightness to a massive subject in the act of taking flight. The jury says: "There is the presence of a little man, all mass and volume, in a heavy and shapeless aggregate which is inscribed in a circle and, unlike Leonardo's famous figures, rests crushed on its base. Despite the fact that it is such, it suggests a circular motion, even a circus performance. It seems it can begin a process of dematerialization. And the flight might be generated as a result, a flight that mimics the flight of the birds, inhabitants of air, pursuing freedom. The game, serious and ironic at the same time, is between weight and lightness, between the reality that oppresses and its overcoming, its sublimation: an Italo Calvino style game that avails itself of the impulses and suggestions of aluminum. "

The next and final appointment with the COMEL Award is scheduled for Saturday, April 18th at 6.30 pm, when the winner of the public vote will be announced after a dance performance by the dancer Alessia del Noce (stage-managed by Minea De Mattia, Maitre du Ballet of ‘Opera in Roma’ Association.)
