RECENSIONI
Stanislav Ukraintsev, a young contemporary Ukrainian artist is, to my mind, one of the best representatives of the South-Ukrainian school, famous for bright and vivid colors, bald brush-strokes and freedom of expression. His last exhibition caused a stir in art circles. Opinions differed drastically. The artist vexed critics by daring to mix in one exhibition canvases, painted in realistic manner (portraits, still-lifes, land- and sea-scapes) and bizarre, surrealistic experiments, called by him ‘plasticity of color’. His ‘red’ series tore apart the tranquil, a bit provincial, therefore predictable, atmosphere of Odessa.
I noticed his passionate, somewhat naive desire to paint, to paint because he cannot not paint, and he doesn’t want to clone his, even the most successful, work. Though, if he did, he would sell much quicker.
